Are you ready for this year’s general election?

While the date for this year’s general election is not yet known, Northampton Borough Council is urging residents not to wait until the date has been announced before they secure their right to vote.

“The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote can be a matter of a few days,” warns Ross Thompson, of the Council’s Electoral Services Team. “If you are not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to vote.”

Registering to vote only takes a few minutes. You can print off a form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, the website of the independent elections watchdog, the Electoral Commission, or telephone the Northampton Borough Council Electoral Services Team on 01604 837111.

“More than 154,000 people are registered to vote in Northampton but anyone who still has not returned the form they received from us at the end of last year, or who has moved house since then and not re-registered, needs to register now or risk missing the chance to vote when the election is called,” Ross Thompson added.
